DRTV KVIZ

EK x DR hackathon, 22 to 23 October 2026

A phone companion app for people who watch reality TV alone. Scan the TV, play the quiz and join a chat that never spoils the episode. I was product manager and project leader of a Scrum team of 5, and I designed the platform and the UX/UI.

  • Won the hackathon, 1 of 26 teams
  • 160 participants over two days
  • Scrum team of 5

The decision

Build on what DR already has

We worked from one question: how can DR create digital experiences that give users more value and strengthen their relationship with DR? We looked at it through young viewers.

While other teams were building a Wordle-style game, I told my team to build on the content DR already has. I pitched the product as a live comment feed for people who watch reality TV alone at home.

Sprint 1, Discover

Finding the gap

We started with about 45 minutes each, alone, going through DR to find the biggest challenges in reaching young people. Then we put everything into one problem tree. Each of us then built a persona in about 20 minutes.

When we showed them to each other, all of them pointed the same way: DR TV, and how to make it more attractive to young viewers.

Sprint 2, Ideate

From ideas to an app

We generated ideas with Lotus Blossom, mapped the app in a mind map, and used the Darkside method to find what could go wrong, so we could make the design stronger.

The product is already visible on the Lotus Blossom board: sign-up, a live quiz, a live comment section, friends, genres, a favourites list and a leaderboard.

Sprint 3, Prototype

Sketching it fast

We started with a concept sketch of the TV screen and the quiz. Then we ran Crazy 8s: a sheet folded into eight frames, one minute per frame, starting from the Lotus Blossom results.

Everyone got five dots to vote on the sketches they liked best. The strongest ideas went into the prototype.

The product

Six screens, one flow

You scan the QR code on the TV and your phone follows the episode on its own clock. That is what makes the quiz and the chat work for people who watch later or join late. All shows, fans and chat messages in the prototype are made-up demo data.

Sprint 4, Test

What a first test showed

We tested the prototype with one user from the target group, who clicked through it alone while we watched and took notes.

The biggest finding: an empty chat made the main feature look broken. So the app now has a made-up audience, clearly labelled Demo.

  • A "how it works" card on the watch page
  • You can see your own place in Superfans
  • A one-line purpose for points

My role

What I did

I was the only multimedia designer in the group. The rest of the team studied economics and IT, so we came at the task from different angles: the business case, what is technically possible, and the user and the visual side.

  • Product manager and project leader of a Scrum team of 5
  • Set the product direction and pitched it
  • Designed the whole platform and the UX/UI
  • Used Lotus Blossom and Crazy 8s so everyone could start sketching, even without a design background
  • Kept the team on track and made sure everyone had a say
  • The prototype code was written with AI, because we had very little time

The pitch to DR

What we recommended next

  • Pilot: run it on 2 to 3 DRTV reality shows, for example Alene i vildmarken and Den store bagedyst, with DR's approval
  • Closed beta: about 500 viewers aged 20 to 35, after a full Danish-language user test
  • Measure: quiz participation, comments per viewer, weekly return and an NPS of 30 or more, after one full season
